Music

“Music is a powerful tool for personal development, social connection, and cultural understanding.

Introduction

At St Mary’s, we are committed to inspiring every child to develop a lifelong love of music while nurturing their individual talents as musicians.

Through our carefully planned curriculum, we aim to build pupils’ confidence, creativity and sense of achievement, ensuring that music is an inclusive and enriching experience for all. Using the Charanga scheme, we provide a progressive, broad and balanced programme that develops key musical skills in listening, appraising, performing and composing. Pupils are exposed to a rich variety of musical styles, traditions and cultures, enabling them to express themselves creatively through singing, playing instruments and composing, while also supporting their well-being and social development through collaborative music-making. Our spiral approach ensures that learning is revisited and deepened over time, allowing children to gain mastery across a wide range of musical experiences.
